The Korg WS-SR Wavestation (released in 1992) is a compact, 1-unit rackmount digital synthesizer module featuring Vector Synthesis and Wave Sequencing. It packs the core sound engine of the famous Wavestation EX into a space-saving steel chassis with expanded preset banks, but omits the physical joystick controller.

Core Features and Architecture.

Synthesis Engine: Uses "Advanced Vector Synthesis and Wave Sequencing technology" to crossfade between multiple PCM waveforms and cycle through sequential wave steps for evolving, atmospheric pads and rhythmic soundscapes.

Presets and Memory: Contains the largest collection of factory patches of any hardware Wavestation, featuring "550 performances, 385 patches, and 352 built-in wave sequences" across extensive ROM and user RAM banks.

Multitimbral Capability: Offers 16-part MIDI multitimbrality and 32 multi-sets for complex studio setups.

Physical Build: Occupies 1 rack space (1U), lacks the iconic hardware joystick (though it responds to external MIDI vector controllers), and drops the audio inputs found on the earlier A/D rack model
